All Airborne Dance classes for kids are designed, first and foremost, to be a fun and safe learning experience for your dancer. We teach dance technique, flexibility, strength, and vocabulary. We work on motor skills, rhythm, and creative movement through many inspiring activities that are incorporated into our lesson plans and vary based on skill level and age of the dancer.
Airborne Dance in Longmont, CO, offers both Recital and Non-Recital based classes, so that your dancer can decide what type of commitment they want to make to dancing. In addition to our DanceBuilders and DanceStars recreational dance programs, we also have a variety of performance dance teams.
All recital based dance classes for kids are closed to new enrollment February through May. Please refer to the DanceNastics and Non-Recital classes on our dance schedule.
What type of dance should I do?
Of course the choice is always yours at Airborne Dance studio in Longmont, CO. We do not require ballet in order to participate in our jazz, tap, or hip-hop dance classes. If you are pursuing a spot on our competitive dance team we strongly encourage taking multiple forms of dance, with ballet being one of them.
DanceBuilders (Pre-School Dance Classes)
DanceBuilders Program classes will help your student:
Build a strong dance foundation. Through the use pre-ballet, pre-jazz, and creative movement lessons students will learn the basic techniques, vocabulary, and fundamental skills necessary to progress in many different forms of dance.
Build their musicality. Students will learn to listen for and feel the rhythm of music and develop their ability to reproduce rhythms.
Build movement quality. Students will be encouraged to experiment with and learn the difference between soft and sharp movements, high and low levels of movement, fast and slow movements, and many, many more!
Build self-expression. Students will develop their ability to express themselves through music not only through creative movement exercises, but also with props such as balloons, scarves, ribbon sticks, hoops and small percussion instruments.
Build a love of dance. Our goal through the DanceBuilders program is to build a love of dance and music that will last a lifetime.
DanceBuilders (2 1/2 to 5 years old)
We have two age groups for our DanceBuilders students: 2 ½ to 3 ½ (must be potty trained), and 4 to 5 years of age. These classes follow our DanceBuilder curriculum described above.
KinderBuilders (5 to 6 years old)
KinderBuilders classes are for students who are currently enrolled in Kindergarten. These classes are similar in structure to the DanceBuilders classes, but are a bit more advanced and will progress more quickly due to the older age of the students.
DanceBuilders+Tap and KinderBuilders+Tap classes focus on all the same skills as the regular DanceBuilders and KinderBuilder classes, with some extra time spent learning tap basics. Tap uses the sound of the taps to help teach rhythm and patterns in addition to just being fun to learn.
DanceNastics (2 to 5 1/2 year olds)
DanceNastics classes give the student the opportunity to experience both dance and gymnastics in one class! Students will receive instruction from both our TumbleBee and DanceBuilder curriculums in class each week. Please note that toddler dance classes for the 2 and 3 year olds do require a parent to participate with the student during the gymnastics portion of the class.

Ballet Classes
Ballet is the basis of all dance technique. We make learning ballet fun for all age groups. Younger students learn the basics, including stretching, locomotor skills, rhythm and timing, and proper positions of the feet and arms, with creative exploration. As ballet students progress, the emphasis is on basic discipline for ballet skills with concentration on barre exercises, center work, adagio, allegro and both short and long ballet combinations set to classical music. We offer ballet classes from beginning to advanced levels, including pointe.
Jazz Dance Classes
If you really want to move this is your class! Beginning jazz dancers learn the fundamentals of body isolations, walks, runs, jumps, turns, and leaps set to upbeat modern music. As students advance, combinations become longer and much more complex.
Hip-Hop: Learn the latest style raging all over the U.S. that has its roots in African and street dance. Learn both old and new-school techniques such as poppin’, lockin’, spins, and ear stands. A terrific class for any B-Boy or B-Girl!
Hip Hop Dance Classes
Jazz and hip-hop technique are combined to create an innovative and fun class for all.
Tap: Tap dancers coordinate movement with sound, especially in their feet. Beginning students will develop their sense of rhythm while learning basic tap steps such as shuffle and flap in essential rhythmic sequences.
